Kristen Thompson, Ph.D.

Kristen Thompson Ph.D., is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and has been licensed in California since 2001, following a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in Dr. Leah Ellenberg's neuropsychological practice from 1999 to 2001. She specializes in evaluating children, adolescents, and young adults for concerns including learning disorders, attention difficulties, developmental disabilities, social challenges, anxiety and mood disorders, head injury, and other conditions that may affect cognitive, behavioral, adaptive, and/or emotional functioning. She conducts scientific, evidenced-based evaluations to ascertain neurocognitive strengths and weaknesses for educational and/or treatment planning purposes.

Dr. Thompson graduated summa cum laude from Duke University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a certificate in Human Development, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She completed an undergraduate thesis examining peer relationships of school-age children. Dr. Thompson then graduated from the University of Miami with a Master of Science degree and Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Clinical Child and Family Psychology. She completed a clinical child psychology internship at the UCLA School of Medicine, Neuropsychiatric Institute and Hospital.

Dr. Thompson has served as a clinical instructor at Miami Dade Community College, Department of Psychology and Education and at University of Miami, Department of Psychology. She also served as an adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern University, Fischler Graduate School of Education and Human Services, Child Youth Studies and Human Services Program. Dr. Thompson has been involved in clinical research focusing on child/pediatric psychology and neuropsychology. She was a founding member of the Center for Neurocognitive Wellness, a not-for-profit organization aimed at developing computer-based interventions to be utilized by older adults to decrease the likelihood of developing significant age-related neurocognitive deficits. Dr. Thompson has been an ad-hoc reviewer on peer review journals focusing on mental health functioning and medical illness in children.
